The Camargue series #1

I have had a visit to the Camargue region in the south of France on my bucket list for quite some time. The area is home to an ancient breed of horse indigenous to this area and believed to be descended from prehistoric horses. The Camargue horses run relatively freely under the stewardship of Les Gardians, the Camargue cowboys, who use them for livestock management and to guard the wild, black bulls used in local bullfights. They’re of course a huge tourist attraction too.

The marshes and wetlands areas they’re found in as well as the numbers in their herds provide a fantastic opportunity for some very special photography. The chance also to photograph one of the stallions in the sand dunes was an added bonus. It was truly an experience I will never forget.
